The Geopolitical Ecology, Renewal Energy and Lithium in the South American Salt Flats

Lithium-ion batteries play a key role in the use of electric vehicles and in large energy storage systems. Lithium is a strategic resource, control of which is of great interest politically and economically. The extraction of lithium is complex and creates a number of challenges. This research focuses on the impact of lithium mining in the South American salt flats and considers the many implications of the development of this industry.
